Joy Clair November New Release Blog Hop - DIY Christmas Nativity Ornament

My project to share with you is wood-burned ornaments that I created using the new Color By Faith collection – Christmas Nativity Stamps. Christmas is getting so close! One of my favorite things todo is making ornaments and gifts for this season. And this new stamp set is just perfect for this project.

I got lots of wood slices from Amazon last year and still have some left in my stash. So I grab some of them for this project. First, I drilled the holes on these wood slices using hand-drill. Super easy. Before stamping, make sure your wood surface is smooth, if not, use sand paper to smooth it and ready for stamping, or coloring, or painting.

I stamped the images on directly on the woods using using StazOn Jet Black ink. This ink is the best for stamping on woods and canvases.

You can leave them as is, or continue to the next step πŸ™‚

Next is wood burning. I pre-heated my wood burning tool while I was working on the drilling and stamping. Make sure it is hot enough for this step. It is super easy to use this tool with stamped image. Pretty much you just trace the image. With hot tool, it works like pencil. Do not push to hard on the wood surface because it will burn a hole on it.

I enjoy this process πŸ™‚

Leaving the images as wood-burned look is cool. This time I want to color them. And I use my Prismacolors Pencils to color each of them. Also, I use the Prisma Colorless Blender Pencil to smoothen the colors on the wood. These pencils work fantastic on wood slices!

I have more wood slices to work one for gifts… πŸ˜€ I hope you are inspired with this project to start working on your own Christmas projects.

  1. What a fabulous idea this is, Hellen, I love it!! I know my family would really
appreciate these ornaments. And this is my favorite set (with Christmas Cocoa
    running a very close 2nd!).

  2. Fabulous project.
Haven’t done any wood burning in a long time
but I need to get the iron out and try this.
    The coloring is great.
thanks for reminding me of a forgotten
    craft.

  3. So cute – I really love the wood slices and how you used the new set – so clever and creative! All the new sets look amazing, too!

  4. Such sweet ornaments! Perfect for these simple but effective designs from the Christmas Nativity set! So pretty on the wood slices! Fabulous project…. wouldn’t these make a lovely gift?

  5. What a clever idea. I’ve never made ornaments myself but the stamps in this release would be great for that purpose. My favourite set is Born is The King.

  6. How cute! I used to do some wood burning years ago (did it on Santa’s). Your ornaments make me want to try it again….if I could find my tools. πŸ™‚ Joy Clair is starting November off right!!!!
