Good Soldiers

On this Memorial Day, all of us remember those who sacrified their lives in the wars, those who have served and survived, and also those who are serving now in other countries. We praise God for all of them! We thank you all for willing to serve God and others in this way.

When I was sitting and thinking of God, I was reminded of a passage from the book of 2 Timothy 2:1-13: “A Good Soldier of Christ Jesus.”

What strucked me a lot were faithfulness and obedience. Those are the main characters that should be found in a good soldier of Christ. Apostle Paul wrote, “No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him,” (2 Timothy 2:4).

Moreover, Apostle Paul warned us that we have to be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might (Ephesians 6:1). For “our battle” now is not fighting flesh and blood, but againts the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12).

Apostle Paul listed the whole Armor of God that we should put on ever day in our lives so we can stand firm until the end (Ephesians 6:14-18) :

– Belt of truth
– Breastplate of righteousness
– Shoes of readiness given by the Gospel of peace
– Shield of faith
– Helmet of salvation
– Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God
– Pray ALL TIMES in the Spirit for all believers

As Apotle Paul told this to Timothy, this saying also still is trustworthy for us and for our generations.

If we have died with Him,
we also live with Him;
If we endure,
we will also reign with Him;
If we deny Him,
He also will deny us;
If we are faithful,
He remains faithful-
for He cannot deny Himself.
(2 Timothy 2:11-13)

Let us all the followers of Christ be the good soldiers of Christ.
