A Tribute Blog Hop for Melissa Lane

Hello everyone.. welcome to our special tribute blog hop in memory of our crafty friend, Melissa Lane. It is a hard post to write today but we would love to celebrate her beautiful life today.

Melissa passed away on October 2… She was a sweet friend whom I met through couple design teams. She as kind with her words and encouraging others. She inspired me with her love for God, her family, gardening, and cardmaking. On her blog, you can see lots of beautiful works and stories behind them. I am going to miss her a lot… My prayers are for her family that may God comfort her husband, children, and parents with the love and hope in Christ Jesus.

This tribute blog hop for Melissa starts at STAMPlorations Blog where you can see more inspirations form the team. And I created these two sympathy cards with some butterflies on them becuase Melissa loved butterflies.

I used Trendy Butterflies 2 Stamp Set to create the background and the sentiment is from the Fond Expressions Stamp Set. On the left card, I did stamping and watercoloring, and on the right one I used alcohol inks and gold foil sheet along with the stamping.

You Are In My Prayers

For the first card, I stamped the butterflies on the left side of a cardstock with VersaFine Onyx Black on the right side of a watercolor paper. I trimmed the paper into 4″ x 5.25″. I freely painted the butterflies with Sakura Koi Watercolor Paints. I added some splatters with black watercolor paints. I dried the watercolor paper craft heater, and then I stamped the sentiment on it with VersaFine Onyx Black ink pad using my Mini MISTI. I added the finished panel on a dark blue card using dries-clear adhesive glue.

You Are In My Prayers

On the second card, I added some on the alcohol inks on a glossy photo paper using the felt applicator and alcohol blender. I slightly tap the ink on the paper to get the softer look on it. I let it sit to dry for a couple of minutes, and then I added the Deco Foil Gold Sheet on the paper that is still bit tacky to get the gold-ish marble look on it. I let it dried completely before stamping step.

I stamped the butterflies using the VersaFine Clair ink pads. I am so happy to see that they work great on glossy paper, too. I trimmed the 4″ x 6″ photo paper into 4″ x 5.25″ and added it on a light blue card base with Scrapbook Adhesive EZ Runner Grand. I stamped the sentiment on white cardstock with VersaFine Clair – Purple Delight, and then trimmed it into a sentiment banner. I added it on the card with 3D foam tape for extra dimension.

We would like to invite you all to join us in celebrating her life by creating a butterfly card in her memory. You may blog about the card you make as a tribute to her or not, but either way, please add your card to Melissa’s Butterfly Gallery at the end of this tribute post.

  1. This is superbly done. Your inking and design is phenomenal. We are so blessed you link your artwork with us last Challenge at Word Art Wednesday. There still a few days left for you to join us again in our current Challenge. Leaving you with the inspiration of the Scripture in 1 Thessalonians 2:13 which says, “And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe.” Have a blessed day!
