DIY Page Tabs With Envelope Punch Board

Today I am sharing a tutorial how to make page tabs with WRMK Envelope Punch Board.

Since I do not have tab punch, I make my own page tabs using WRMK Envelope Punch Board. It is very easy to make and you can do in any sizes you need for your Bible journaling, or planner, or use them on any projects you want.

Here are the steps:

  • Cut paper or cardstock in sizes you desire. I cut mine on the video in 2 inches x 1.5 inches.
  • Score and fold.
  • Place it under the punch.
  • Punch one side.
  • Flip over and punch again.

Hopefully the picture video is clear enough to show you how to make them. Fell free to ask me questions in the comment if you have 😊

Have a blessed Friday and Happy Crafting!

First Mixed Media Project: Thank You Gift Tag

Mixed Media is something new that I discovered among papercrafters. It is a new technique that I would like to explore and learn.

According to Wikipedia, Mixed Media is a work of visual art that combines various traditionally distinct visual art media. In other word, mixed media is an art work that made by more than one medium.

But Mixed Media Artwork is not the same with Multimedia Art. For example, a work on canvas that combines paint, ink, and collage could properly be called a “mixed media art, but not multimedia art.

I watched some tutorials on YouTube and I think it is something that I will enjoy creating. In those videos, I found out two of the main supplies are Gesso and Modeling Paste. Honestly, I still do not know yet the different betweet them since I have not yet seen them or used them in any of my projects in the past. Next time I make a trip to a craft store, I will get them just  to make sure I know the different 🙂

But for a start, I found couple tutorial how to make homemade Gesso and Modeling Paste.

My first mixed media project: Thank You Gift Tag. More about it on my blog: http://helengullett.com/?p=7939 | #mixedmedia #stamplorations #artplorations #fabercastell #gelatos #ctmh #cansonwatercolorpaper #watercoloring #stamping #coloring #gifttag #thankyoutag #thanksgiving #handmadE #diy #coffeelovingpapercrafters #coffeelovingcardmakers #homemadegesso #homemademodelingpaste

I tried this tutorial to make the homemade modeling/texture paste that using baby powder and here’s the recipe:

  • 1 1/2 cup Baby powder (it makes the paste smells so good!)
  • 1/2 cup of White acrylic paint / white acrylic gesso (you can also use black or color gesso/paint)
  • 1/4 cup of Mod Podge (matte)

I used baby powder from Target brand and I ended up adding a little bit more acrylic paint to make it softer to mix. It was a bit hard to mix. She suggested to start with the liquid first, then the powder to avoid lump. And store the paste in air-tight container.

And I also followed this tutorial and recipe that using baking soda for my first homemade gesso:

  • 1/2 cup of Baking Soda
  • 3 tablespoon White Glue (I used Mod Podge)
  • 2 tablespoon White Paint

I ended up to add a little bit more paint to make more consistency like on the video. I think what make the difference is that the brand of supplies we use. So if you wanna try this, I would suggest to start with the recipe and see if you like the result, if not then you can add more of the ingredient to make it better consistent to meet your need.

My oldest daughter was at home for Thanksgiving break and she helped me with mixing them. We had fun doing it together and messy for sure 😀

The best way to store the oaste is in an air-tight container and according to them, one batch can last for 6-10 months.

My first mixed media project: Thank You Gift Tag. I did a test right away. So, I cut a tag out of Canson watercolor paper (140 lbs). To create the background, I added some Gelatos on it and blended them with my finger and then using baby wipe I blended them more to give the watercoloring look. I speeded the drying with Craft Heater.

When the background tag dry completely, I added the modeling paste on it using a palete knife over Retro Circles – ARTplorations Stencil. It took a while to dry.

I stamped the stacking cups (Sketchy Coffee Cups – STAMPlorations) and sentiment (Literary Caffeine-anations – Big Grind by Becca Cruger, STAMPlorations) when the background completly dry.

I colored and added some shadow to the cups using the Mix & Match Stamper’s Big Brushes. I love the finished tag and really enjoy the process of making it.

I still have a lot to learn but this is a fun technique, making pretty mess for sure.

Watercolor Card with Watercolor Pencils and Dye Ink [Tutorial]

Today I would like to share a tutorial how to make this watercolor card using watercolor pencils and stamping.

Oh Hey

I made a short video of pictures how to create the watercolor circles that you also can use the same technique to make balloons or any image that you draw with watercolor pencils and add some water to give the watercolor effect.

When the watercolor image is completely dry, you can stamp your sentiment. For this card, I wanted the sentiment also looks watercolor-y 🙂 It’s very easy to do. First, you cover your image or sentiment with ink and then spray with some water. The amount of water on the inked image or sentiment will give you the watercolor effect when you stamp it on the cardstock or watercolor paper.

Oh Hey

I hope you will give it a try and share with me your project 🙂 If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comment box.

THANK YOU for stopping by today and have a fabulous day!

DIY Gift Bag, Card Holder and Journaling Card Box

One more day to the end of February. Wow… time surely flies so fast when we have so much work and fun 🙂 I hope that you have been having great times this month with your families and friends.

My dear church friend and sister had birthday this month and I made her gift bag and gift box. I was a bit late but that she could celebrate her birthday longer, right? 🙂

This is the gift bag. Instead of putting the card inside the bag, I made a card holder for the front of the bag. The birthday card is also the tag.

Cut a piece of cardstock, make sure it is wider than your card. Then cut in the middle of the piece of cardstock slightly wider than the card for the insert hole. Final step is adding to the front of the bag using either double-sided tape or strong glue. I would recommend double-sided tape or Liquid Glass. I was thinking it would be nice for not only just plain rectangle piece of cardstock, so I punched the border of the card holder using Martha Stewart lace border punch.

The card I made using CTMH February Stamp of the Month, A Happy Hello. And the Exclusive Inks Stamp Pads I use are Pixie, Smoothie, Sorbet, Goldrush and Topiary.

I finished the card with some Sparkles Clear Assortment. They are back-adhesived clear gems, ready to use at anytime, no glue needed.

For the gift box, I used My Creations™ Journaling Cards Box. I embossed a piece of Chocolate cardstock with Woodgrain embossing folder using my WRMK Evolution Advance. I made a template of the shapes I need for the box sides using a plain printer paper. And then using them, I cut the embossed cardstock for front, back and both sides of the box. Using some Liquid Glass, I added them on the box.

And I stamped the sentiment from Thankful Heart stamp set using Rock-n-Roll technique. The Exclusive Inks Stamp Pads I use are Chocolate and Goldrush. For the leaves from the same set, I stamped the leaves with VersaMark ink pad on a piece of watercolor paper, added some Ranger Princess Gold embossing powder, heat set it with Craft Heater and then adding some colors I picked up with aqua brush from the lid of these Exclusive Inks Stamp Pads (Chocolate, Goldrush and Olive). Cut the leaves and added them on the box using Liquid Glass and Glue Dots. And I finished the box with some Durables Triangle studs and some Gold Sequin Assortment.

I filled the box with assortment of cards handmade by my friends and me 🙂
