DIY 3D Paper Flowers Arrow Sign

I love papers and flowers. Making paper flowers is one of my favorite craft project. And today I am sharing another 3D paper flower with arrow wooden sign.

This time I am working with the Cutting Cafe – Paper Flower Template and Cutting File and my Silhouette Cameo. This cutting files also come with PDF file that you can print and trace as template if you do not have electronic cutting machine. And the patterned papers I used this time is one of the CTMH retired BT Duo papers.

3D-Layered-Paper-Flower-1

First, I resized the petals to 2 sizes: 3 in and 4 using Silhouette Studio Designer Edition Software. Then I cut them. I double cut them just to make sure they all cut well since I had older blade in 🙂 But if you have new blade, you don’t have to double cut.

3D-Layered-Paper-Flower-2

I used heat glue gun to put them together. It is very easy to do. There is a video tutorial here that you can see what tools needed and steps to put them together. In the video, she only used one petal for the flower bud, but I used 2 petals since I made bigger flowers so it will look fuller. The rest, I followed the steps.

Here how they look when they are finished and on the arrow wooded signs. And they are ready to be personalized with paint or wood-burning tool. I just need to think of what phrases to write on them 🙂

3D-Layered-Paper-Flower-4

I really love these flowers and planning to make more of them. Maybe next time I’ll try felt. What do you think? Do you like making paper flowers or your own home decor? What is your favorite?

THANK YOU so much for visiting me today and hope you all have a fabulous blessed day!

DIY 3D Paper Flower Wood Slice Sign

One of my favorite craft supply to work with is wood slice 🙂 and today I am going to share how you can make a wood slice sign with big 3D paper flower on it. It is a fun project making your own home decor.

Cutting files I use for this project today is from The Cutting Cafe – Paper Flower Template. This file comes with 3 different sizes but for this project enlarge the flower to 5 inch in diameter. To put it together this flower is very easy 🙂 You can watch the video tutorial here. The Cutting Cafe provides many cutting files that you can use with any electronic cutting machine, and also they have various digital printable stamps that you can use for projects.

After I resized the shape, I cut it with my Silhouette Cameo. I used 8.5 x 11 cardstocks. I cut 3 times, or 6 petals.

Big-3D-Paper-Layered-Flower-1

I added some Chocolate Distress Ink with sponge on each petal to give some distress and vintage look on it.

Then using the back of my largest brush and fun foam as the padded mat, I curled the petals just like in the video tutorial.

After that, I put them together with glue gun (or you can use any strong and dries quickly liquid glue you have).

Big-3D-Paper-Layered-Flower-2

I added it on the 9 inch round Wood Slice with hot glue gun, or any strong glue you have (wood glue will work, too).

I love how it turned out. It is up on the wall 🙂 So, do you like to make your own home decor?

I hope you are inspired today. Thank You so much for visiting me and have a fabulous blessed day!

DIY Old Book Page Paper Flower

My best friend is getting and she is making some decors, one of them is paper flowers out of old-book pages. I love her flowers 🙂 and inspired by her project, todau I am sharing a project that I made out of old book pages. Pinterest has all kind of tutorials 🙂

My flower is pretty simple. Hand cut will do. You will need these supplies to make this flower:

  • Old book pages
  • Paper trimmer
  • Scissors
  • Distress Ink for the edges (I used this CTMH but it is retired, but you can use any chocolate ink)
  • Sponge dauber (or make up sponge will work as well)
  • Glue gun & glue stick (strong liquid glue will work for the flower, but you will need glue gun for the frame)

To make the flower, first I cut the papers:

  • 12 pieces of 3″x3″
  • 12 pieces of 3″x 2 1/2″
  • 12 pieces of 3″x2″

Then each of them fold in half and cut in shape of flower perals. Next, add some distreas ink on all the petal edges using the sponge dauber. Then curl the top of each petal using scissors or anything round like stick or chopstick. After that, cut a slit a little bit at each center bottom of the petal. Using glue gun, glue the slit overlaping each other.

And then start to glue one petal starting the biggest one. I made 6 petals for each layer. Add a dap of glue at one side bottom of the petal and glue the othey until it form a circle layer of 6 petals. You will have 2 big circle of petals, 2 medium circle of petals, and 2 small circle of petals.

Then using glue gun to stack them together.

For the middle of the flower, you can fill in with the fringe cut paper like I did, or you can make more petals but smallers to fill it. To make the center like I did, you can use the left over paper strips and cut them 1″ or 1.5″ wide. Then cut to make them look like fringe. If you have the fringe scissors, that will be easier. Then roll them, add dap of glue as you roll. Then add some distress ink on them and add it in the center of the flower with glue gun.

This is the flower look like after I added it inside the shadow wood frame using glue gun:

I adapt the original tutorial to make smaller flower like this. You cam pretty much create it in any sizes depend on the various size of petals you create.

I love making this flower and I started make more of it for more home decor project 🙂

I hope you like it and inspire to create something beautiful today! Thank You for visiting and have a fabulous day!

Mixed Media Canvas: Be Still And Know I Am God

My first mixed media canvas finally done after working on it for 1 and a half day. I am inspired by many artists both here and YouTube 😊 So thankful for so many people generously posted their tutorials.

Mixed Media Canvas: Be Still And Know I Am God

Mixed media is one of the thing I would like to learn more this year. So many techniques and products for the mixed media projet. I am learning and exploring ideas from many artists throught their blogs and YouTube videos.

Honestly, it is tough challenge for me because mixed media is a project that you need to be able to just flow with the moment, freely adding medium as you go to create an art. For “the not knowing the result” is me stepping out of my comfort zone. I read the 5 tips from Rita Barakat at Design Memory Craft blog post and they are practical but the number 5 is the most challenging for me: Let Go. But it is a challenge, right? Expect the unexpected.

Here are the close up pictures of  how I created this canvas from before to after.

And second, today is day 8 of the 12 Days DIY Christmas this year, I would love to share with you a project I made using Silhouette Cameo today that it is one of my favorite projects ever… Candle Jar Sleeve. I participate on an awesome blog hop hosted by Silhouette Challenge group, where you can find tons of inspirations and tutorials of projects using either Silhouette Cameo and Portrait. Another reason why you want to enter this giveaway 🙂

IMG_5497.JPG

I love candles. When they are all gone, I clean the jars to reuse them. This one is one of them. And I was thinking I need some more Christmas theme decorations in this house and came across an idea to make candle jar sleeve to decorate this used candle jar.

It is an easy and quick project that you can do for any seasons or occasions. I already have a list to make for Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter again 😀

Okay 🙂 Now the supplies. You’ll need:

  • Silhouette machine
  • Blade (new is better for cutting intricate designs)
  • Cutting mat
  • Silhouette Studio Designer Edition
  • Shape you want to cut (I picked Nativity scene from Lori Withlock)
  • Spatula
  • Cardstock (I used black for better silhouette looking)
  • Glue
  • Candle Jar
  • First of all, open the Silhouette Studio software and open the shape you wanna cut. I resized the Nativity scene to 11″ x 2 1/2″ and drew a rectangle a bit longer, about 11 1/4″ and 1″ tall. Ungroup. Then rearrange the individual shapes to where you’ll like.

IMG_5498.JPG

I did not use the phrase so I dragged it to out side of the cutting mat. Then as you can see in the picture below, I dragged the rectangle to overlapping with the bottom of the nativity shapes.

IMG_5499.JPG

Once you like the position, select all the shapes. Open the Weld Box by clicking on the little that has letter M with circle and rectangle.

IMG_5500.JPG

Click weld…. Ta-da! 🙂

IMG_5501.JPG

Cut the cardstock to 12″ x 5″ and put it on the cutting mat. Load the mat to the machine, make sure the setting on the machine is “Load Cutting Mat.”
Send the shape to Silhouette machine by clicking the square button on the upper left with Silhouette machine symbol.

IMG_5502.JPG

Make sure the setting is set for the cardstock and adjust the blade on the machine according to the correct blade setting. Always test cut to make sure everything is set correctly. Then click cut.

And done. I used battery operated tea light for this one. Also I added some fake snowflakes at the bottom of the jar.
