Writing In Action #1

I am not a write and never dreamed to be one. Few months ago, I remember I got a writing e-book. My original though was to develop my writing skill, not only to write a blog but also because every other week I have to compose our ministry with Wycliffe prayer letter and newsletter.

Screen Shot 2013-07-22 at 6.46.25 AMThe e-book’s title is On Becoming A Writer: What Every Blogger Needs To Know, by Denise J Hughes. For a 2 weeks I’ve been reading this book (finally I got to this book!) and I wish she was the teacher at my writing class when I was at collage. She lives in Southern California with her family, a lovely Christian woman (who is one of those who inspire my life!) and a composition teacher at a collage.

On her first chapter, she mentions that she would encourage her students to write a blog, so that they would experience writing process outside the context of school assignments. I think that is a great idea from a teacher. Again, I wish my writing/composition teacher would ask us to do that.

I’ve been blogging (on and off) since 2006-ish, and I am still not confident enough to write and share my stories in English. A lot of reasons behind my unconfident feeling. But after reading her first chapter, I decided to try again, to start from the very basic of what is writing, what should I write and just flow with it. English is not my first language, it’s my 4th language. So YES, I will make many errors, but now I know that is part of learning process.

I will try to “push” myself to be discipline to share my experience here using this assignments, Writing In Action, from Denise’s book. This is the first one.

=============================================================

I went to Atmajaya Catholic University, Jakarta, Indonesia to study to be an English Teacher in 1999 and graduated in 2007. There where I got my bachelor degree on education. I took about 2 years off the collage for some family reasons.

When I was at collage, one of the main subjects I needed to take was Writing/Composition. They had 3 classes for that subject, Writing 1, Writing 2 and Writing 3. I learned to write in English, in hard ways. It was very difficult for me to understand the whole concept the lectures taught at the time. We sticked to whatever they assigned us to write. I didn’t like that classes! My thought as long as I could get a C, I passed the class. I was satisfied with C! I just didn’t do my very best to try to get the best grade for Writing classes.

And I got the point when I experienced the hardest time when I had to write my last paper to graduate. But I was so thankful to God that he brought me through the process when I totally rely on Him, wisdom and He even sent helps through a group of American students who were in Jakarta at that time, the group I helped with their Indonesian language and culture class for 2 weeks. They helped me a lot with editing and helping me to understand some terms that I didn’t understand the meaning. After the group left, God sent a couple of missionaries to help me with the last editing for my paper.

Around the same time, I started to blog in English (I wrote blog in Indonesia in 2006). And through all that, I found out that writing a blog in English was more what I would like to do, but had not enough confidence to do so. But I just kept writing simple posts up until now.

I pray that through this learning process, God will help me to discover what He wants me to write, how and use it to inspire and impact other’s lives so that they may come to know Him and His glory!

I will be so thankful if you, my friends and readers, would leave any comments/critiques/corrections on my writing/post. Your comments/critiques/corrections will help me to grow and improve my writing! THANK YOU SO MUCH for being so awesome for taking time to do so!

Declare Conference: The Voice We Have

I love this quote from Declare Conference blog sidebar. The purpose we come to know God is to make Him known to our family, friends, and to the whole world!

Twenty three days remaining until the Declare Conference (August 9 – 10, 2013).

I am excited to be there, not because this is my first blogging conference, not because it’s a trend to go to a blogging conference, but I have my very own reasons to go.

Honestly, I do not write well in English and just “gibberish” here and there on my post since 2008.

Yes, I am nervous. Yes, I am not a “regular” and “consistent” blogger. Yes, I am a newbie in blogging world. Yes, I am a home stay mom and work at home mom (for now). Yes, I am a missionary. Yes, I am not English speaker. Yes, I’ve made TONS of mistake in my writing (even in this post, perhaps). But those are the WHYs I wanna go to Declare Conference.

I wanna be there because I wanna be voice through writing my stories, testimonies to declare the glory of God, to make Him known among the nations, be the voice to share the needs of the people who do not have one single verse of God’s word in the language they understand, to mobilize more Christians to see how they can be part of God’s mission works in every way they are called to. I am super excited to meet The Seed Company bloggers, those who have one desire and vision to end Bible poverty!

I wanna go equipped and learn from the bests how to write and share my stories effectively so that the message can be delivered in ways the readers can understand it. I want my posts impact lives!

I wanna be there because I wanna be inspired by other Christian women bloggers who have been great blessings in my life thought reading their posts.

My list can go on and on… but I would like to share with you today that this conference is not just a gathering of a bunch of bloggers, this conference will make a difference in your life and others.

If you have the same (or maybe similar reasons) like mine, or life just like my kindda life, then you might wanna pray and ask God to send you to this conference.

This is the conference where you wanna be there and together we shout out our voice to declare the awesomeness of our Living God, the greatness of God and to know that we are not alone.  This is the conference where you can find mentor, accountable friend, and encourage each other. This is the conference where God will glorify HIS HOLY NAME through your and my posts!

What is the FUN part of going to this conference? OH YEAH! This will be SO MUCH FUN! We get to meet friends we have met through Twitter and Facebook group, or any other Social Media IN REAL LIFE!! Isn’t that wonderful and FUN? Meeting them, hugging them and having conversation with them in person! We will make new friends and building relationships. And oh I almost forgot the mention that the Hotel where you can stay with special deal for Declare Conference attendees is amazing!

There is coffee/tea in your rooms.
Room Service is also available.
The restaurant downstairs serves Starbucks coffee.
There is a Starbucks 1.3 miles away at 4010 N Macarthur Blvd
Declare is hosting a special European Coffee Bar on Saturday:

Prayercast: His Praise Goes On

Prayercast | His Praise Goes On from Prayercast on Vimeo.

This very second the Earth is spinning on its axis, exposing parts to the new day’s first rays of light and shrouding others in the darkness of night.  In the same way, the praises of God’s people are lifted up in a never-ending stream that circles the globe daily.  From mega-cities and rural villages, from mountains and valleys, from jungles and deserts, the LORD Almighty is continuously worshipped in the name of Jesus.

Join the chorus of saints from all around the world and look to Heaven today, no matter what your circumstances, and praise and say thank you to the One who is good and whose love endures forever. He alone is worthy of our praise!

“From the rising of the sun to the place where it goes down, the name of the LORD is to be praised.” Psalm 113:3

Life’s Been Busy

Oh My! I didn’t realize that it’s been a couple of months I haven’t posted anything.

It has been a quite busy months for us. We have been on road trips to visit friends and family for sharing what God has been doing in our lives and about Wycliffe.

We are so excited to go!

I am trying to find time to post more about our adventures, journey with God and what is happening with Wycliffe in all around the world. YES! God is working in people’s hearts, He is opening ways for those who don’t have the Word to have the Word.

We are so thankful God has provided the needs and time for us to go visiting friends and families in North Carolina, Georgia and Alabama from June 7th through June 16th. This can be done only because of God’s grace, love and mercy.

We even are celebrating our 5th Anniversary on the trip 😀 (hey! it’s today! LOL!) I never stop thanking God for my wonderful husband, Dave. We have gone through these sweet, wonderful and challenging 5 years and more amazing years to go through together with God. It’s all from Him and for Him!

I’ll be back with some pictures and stories soon after we get home on June 18th!

Please be praying for us! THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your support!

Whom Shall Go?

And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for  us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” ~ Isaiah 6:8

The same answer I gave to God in 2006 and still be my prayer until today, “Lord, her I am, send me to go to these people.” That’s my prayer for my husband and daughters, too. We go to serve God as family among a nation in Southeast Asia. These are the why: these people are still waiting for God’s word to be available in languages they understand best in their heart, they have been waiting for too long. I was there, living among them for a short period of time only, God revealed to me and the team His heart and desire for these people groups. He wants them to know Him, to have His words and for them to come and worship Him only! (*is not the real name of the place) God used the trips to open my eyes to see the needs and to change my heart and my desire to serve Him. There are more that I have ever imagined!

And in 2007 I had given an opportunity to participate in a literacy survey program hosted by one of Wycliffe’s strategic organization in the country, SIL, to go and collect data from the people in 3 villages and from that data we collected were used to determine whether these people will need God’s word, level of how literate the people, will they need literacy program, what language do they can speak and do they understand the national language or not, etc. So many elements that support Bible Translation work, it cannot be done alone. It needs a team.

We need YOU! Yes, together we can end the Bible poverty in around the world!
