He Has Risen: Vellum Insert Tutorial

Hello everyone… Easter is the celebration of our Lord Jesus has risen, and defeated death. God is glorified by the obedience of Christ. We are forgiven and redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ. This is a celebration!

“But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them and said,”Greetings!”And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them,”Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”” (Matthew 28:5-10, or read online here)

When I read my Bible, I will write and do art journal on both side of the journal columns, and also sometimes, I will need extra space for another one if my reading end up on the same page. This is when I found the solution to use vellum. I am so thankful for those who came up with this idea before me 🙂 And today, I would like to share with you a simple and easy way to add the vellum insert on your journaling Bible. I use the He Has Risen – Bible Journaling Clear Stamps to create my vellum journaling page. Visit Joy Clair Blog to see the full tutorial.

I hope you all can visit me there today 🙂 Thank you so much! Have a wonderful blessed day!

Psalm 127: Watercoloring On Journaling Bible Page Tutorial

Hello Everyone! Bible Journaling has becoming one of the ways I can spend my time with the LORD. It is the time I can hear and read His word, also I can spend time to dig deeper and write specific words spoken to me.

This week, Psalms 127 speak loud to me about home, family, children and our city or country:

Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted.

Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.

It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night,

anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.

Children are a gift from the lord; they are a reward from him.

Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands.

How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them!

He will not be put to shame when he confronts his accusers at the city gates.

This phrase, “Unless the LORD…” is saying that no matter what we do and how hard we work to build our home, raising our children and even building our city, only the LORD who is the strong foundation to build upon, who is the on who protects and guards the city, and He has our children in His hands, ready to release them like arrows in the hand of the Warrior. Our part is to commit every single aspect in His hands and to pray for His plan to be fulfilled!

Today, I am sharing a watercoloring on journaling Bible page tutorial on Joy Clair blog using the new Color By Faith – Prayer Warrior.

Before we jump into the steps how I created this page, I’d like to share a quick tip. I did not prep my Bible Journaling page with any gesso or mod podge. After I watercoloring on it, it wrinkle, but worry not, you can always iron the page with a layer of copy paper on top of the Bible page to flatten it.

First step, I stamped directly the warrior image and sentiment on the wide margin/journaling section with waterproof archival ink. Once the ink dry, you can start adding the watercolor paint. I used my craft heater to speed up the drying 🙂

I picked up the watercolor paint with watercolor brush. I tried not use too much water to prevent more wrinkle or even bleeding through. I blended the colors as adding them on the page. With less water, also we can prevent pooling problem on the page that sometimes will ruin the page if we do not prep the page.

I used my craft heater to dry the page. And started the next step.

For the warrior image I colored it with watercolor pencils. I love using watercolor pencils because it is easier to color at the smaller areas and do the blending at the same time. Using a small round watercolor brush, I wet the colors and turned them into watercolor paint. Once in a while, I picked up the pigment directly on the pencils to add more color on the page and more shading.

Then I decided to add extra texture and shine on the page. Metallic Gelatos are great for this. They won’t bleed through and easy for mixing medium. So, I added some of the Ice Metallic Gelatos  randomly on the page and smudged it with my finger.

Then I added some plus signs here and there with my Faber Castle White Stamper’s Big Brush Pen. This pen also won’t bleed through.

Then I drew some lines to create a box to highlight the verses from Psalms 127 with the Faber Castell Artist PITT Brush Pen. For me it is important to be able to read the verses that God has spoken to me.

This stamp set full of amazing images and sentiment that you can use to create a Bible Journaling page, or handmade card, or home decor, or any other craft that related with prayers and be a prayer warrior. Here’s the preview of the stamp set I use today:

I created a mixed media and CAS using the new stamp set, Be Brave – Bible Journaling Stamp and Aztec Background Stamp Set:

Here’s how I created my CAS, Mixed Media card today:

First I created the background with some Color Burst powder on a piece of watercolor paper. I sprinkled the yellow, orange and lime green powder on the paper and spayed with some water. Watching how the colors burst and mix together is super fun 🙂 Then I wiped off the pooled of water with paper towel. Dried it with craft heater. Then using MISTI, I stamped one of the Aztec Background stamp with Archival Black ink.

I dried the archival ink with craft heater. Then I added some of the Gelatos on the panel. Using my finger to  add and blend the colors.

Then I added some of the Metallic Icing Gelato all over the panel with my finger, just to give some extra shine on it. I tried to capture it with my camera, but this is the best I got to show it to you.

My background panel is done. Next is the sentiment.

I stamped the Be Brave on a white cardstock with Archival ink, colored the wreath with Spectrum Aqua marker and cut out into circle. Then I added some Chocolate Gelato all around the circle with my finger 🙂

To put them all together, first I added a paper doily on the panel, then wrapped around the yellow twine ribbon around it and tied up a bow. Then I added the sentiment circle on top of it with 3D foam tape. And I finished the card with some orange gems.

Today also is the Joy Clair New Release Day! Joy Clair releases 4 awesome and beautiful stamp sets for Bible Journaling and Valentine’s Day:

On this blog hop, I would love to share with you a Bible Journaling Page and a card using Treasure – Bible Journaling Stamp Set, one of the new release stamp sets from Joy Clair:

Joy Clair - Treasure Bible Journaling

On my Journaling Bible, I created a long bookmark to put inside the page. First, I cut out Canson watercolor paper with the same width and length with the side journal space. Then I created the background with Smooshing technique using Tombow Dual Brush Pens, acetate plastic and water.

Once the background dried well, I heat-embossed the images with Versamark Ink Pad and Gold embossing powder. Then I stamped the sentiment and other images with Versafine Onyx Black Ink Pad with second generation stamping technique.

I added the ribbon and brad using my WRMK Crop-a-dile. And it is done 🙂

Joy Clair - Treasure Card

For my card I did the same technique to create the background, but this time I added some Pearl spray mix on it to give it some shine and sparkle. And then I stamped and heat-embossed the gems all around the panel with white embossing powder. Once they all cool done, I die cut the panel with the WRMK Scallop Rectangle nesting dies.

I added them on the card base, first with regular adhesive runner, then the second one with 1 layer of 3D foam tape, and the third one in the middle I added 2 layers of 3D foam tape so they will pop up like steps.

Last step, I heat-embossed the sentiment on a piece of vellum mix of black and glitter embossing powder, then I die cut it with the rectangle die and added it in the middle of the card with vellum adhesive.

And my watercolored, clean and simple card is done. Sorry in the picture it does not look like it shiny. I tried to capture the pearl shine but did not show up really well, but it is really sparkly in real life 😀
